Unique, one-of-a-kind works on paper
Warhol No 8, 2024
Ink and pigment print on watercolor paper
14 x 11 inches
This collage is from the series 1,145,423,569. The 2022 ten most expensive artworks sold at auction cumulatively totaled $1,145,423,569, with the top six artworks selling for over $100 million, each. Using these ten works, this series explores the fair use myth that 30% of the original artwork is allowable to use should it be for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research and done so in a transformative fashion. The artworks have been divided into sections and less than 30% of the piece is included back onto the page, diced up pieces put together out of order like a puzzle, with the empty space inviting the viewer to imagine the remaining artwork. These ten works are titled according to the artist and their sale rank, all of who were men. The top 50 auction results were all achieved by a selection of 30 male artists, 28 of whom were American or European.

The Hues are collages on paper that explore color themes and re-contextualized images of femininity composed from magazine cutouts, advertisements, auction catalogs and other collected objects. The application of embroidery thread, vintage cookbook pages, and objects that were passed down from my Great-Grandmother, Grandmother, and Mother, are used to challenge traditional notions of femininity with the very materials associated with being feminine.

9 x 14 inches
The Collages On Color Kaleidoscopes combine feminine images cut from magazines and advertisements and pairs with cutouts of artworks and floral motifs along with found objects and sewing notions. These nostalgia-femme works, saturated in color are descendants of the earliest forms of magazine layouts and scrapbooking motifs. From the ‘commonplace books’ of the 15th century, ‘friendship albums’ of the 16th century, to the yearbooks and friendship books created by 18th and 19th century school girls, which replaced journaling as a way to document their experiences paired with the ephemera and memorabilia from their lives, such as visiting cards, ticket stubs, plants and even trinkets.
The imagery used here attempts to dissect the cult of domesticity, borrowing items such as a blatantly sexist advertisement, a particularly jarring encyclopedia entry, or a snippet of vintage pornography, which all color our perceived depiction of a woman. Paired with items from my lineage, such as embroidery thread from my Grandmother or recipes from my Great-Grandmother, these works seek to confront the traditional fixed image of femininity with humor and grace.
